Grid Master
A downloadable game
GRID MASTER is a re-imagined version of the classic game Tic-Tac-Toe
RULES OF GRID MASTER
1. This game needs 2 Players: Player A and Player B
2. The game needs to be played with a 3x3 Grid Board and 5 pieces of X and O symbols.
3. Make a playing board with a 3x3 grid.
4. Moves:
Move 1: Player A starts with a symbol by placing it on any of the 4 corners of the board.
Move 2: Player B gets the second move by placing the other symbol in any of the remaining 8 boxes.
Move 3: From the third move onwards, players get an extra ‘Reposition move’.
Player A places a new symbol on the board on any of the remaining 7 boxes.
Reposition Move: After placing a new symbol, Player A must reposition of their symbol from their previous play.
Move 4: Player B places a new symbol on the remaining 6 boxes. Player B then has to reposition their symbol from their previous play.
Move 5: Players place a new symbol and can change the position of any of their previous symbols on the board.
This continues until either player manages to get three of their symbols in a single row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. The players can only win the game with a 'Reposition Move'
POINTS TO NOTE:
1. The first move of the game is only allowed on any of the 4 corner boxes.
2. Reposition move is only allowed horizontally or vertically in any one direction. The diagonal move is not permitted. However, vertical and horizontal moves are allowed up to 2 boxes.
3. During a Reposition move, players cannot jump over an opponent symbol. If their horizontal or vertical path is blocked by the opponent symbol, they cannot move in that direction.
4. Reposition move can only be made after the new symbol has been played.
5. Reposition move cannot be made with the opponent’s symbol.
6. From the third move onwards, the play of each player (including the winning play) ends only after they have made the Reposition move.
OBSERVATIONS:
• The Tic Tac Toe game is inflexible and positions are hard set. In Grid Master, symbol positions are subject to change allowing players to modify their moves.
• The gameplay of Grid Master is more complex than Tic Tac Toe because of additional move permutations. This makes the former less predictable and therefore, more interesting.
• Tic Tac Toe can be won by predicting the opponent’s next move but the faux move rule makes this more complicated. In Grid Master, players have to think 2-3 plays ahead and make their moves strategically to win.
• Tic Tac Toe can be won in just 3 moves, but this is not possible in Grid Master.
• Even when the game comes close to a draw, one strategic move can alter the outcome.
